A 1,000 sq ft space typically needs 24,000-30,000 BTU (2-2.5 tons). For open floor plans, use a multi-zone system with 2-3 indoor heads. For whole-home coverage in warm climates (zones 1-2), 1,000 sq ft often needs a 36,000 BTU (3-ton) system. Ceiling height and window exposure can push this 20-30% higher.
Can a mini split heat and cool?
